Gyros & Gyro Bases

Gyro Base Systems

The MK-V modular base systems have been designed with gyro stabilising in mind. The Nexus and Evolution base systems are designed to mount 2x KS-6 or 3x KS-4 Gyro modules, and gyro power supply. It takes around 10 minutes for the gyros to obtain their full speed of 22,000 rpm, and around 15 minutes to stop once unplugged. It is therefore recommended to have a large separate battery to keep the gyros at speed between shots, and whilst docked. (Gyros are designed to be at speed for long periods of time, up to 8 hours continual use). The best applications for gyros are long lenses, high winds and or vehicle / boat mounting, or any shot that needs to be totally solid. The more leverage the gyros have (length of post to gimbal) the more effective the stabilisation.

Please note all gyros are rather ‘noisy’ and may get a few comments from the sound department, and Gyros are not designed for fast panning in shot.

Using Gyros

When using in full gyro mode, 2x KS-6 or 3x KS-4 the battery power is supplied via a lightweight and flexible 12v/24v power cable. It is also possible to mount a battery module to the base if required for cable-less use (12v).

The weight of 2x KS-6 or 3x KS-4 gyros is more than enough bottom weight for your sled, and this is why MK-V recommends the use of the optional battery input cable.

MK-V is proud to be an agent for Ken Lab Gyros, and all gyros supplied through MK-V are rewired for optimum performance, and ease of use.

2x KS-6 Gyros offer a very stable platform in X and Y-axis, and will stabilise any camera. The gyros can easily be mounted to the base system is around a minute. Please note the run up time of 10 minutes.

3x KS-4 Gyros offer a very stable platform in X, Y and Z-axis and will stabilise any camera. The gyros can easily be mounted to the base system is around a minute.

Please note the run up time of 10 minutes.
